There are plans to launch a new kind of tournament competition in World of Warcraft. It uses the Arena System and the place of the tournaments will be special realms. The competitors will play directly with level-70 characters and will have epic equipment at their disposal. This way, instead of spending time on farming, the competitors will be able to focus on tactics and execution.
These WoW tournaments will take place starting from April 2008 with two rounds of online qualifiers in Europe, South Korea, North America, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau and will last six weeks. The per-competitor entry fee for each qualifier round is ?15/£12 in Europe; 20,000 won in South Korea; $20 in North America; and NT$450 in the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. There will be 3-vs.-3 matches in each region and the first four teams will go to the regional finals. The prizes for this stage of the tournament are worth more than $27,000 in cash. The global championship awards $120,000 in cash prizes, including a $75,000 grand prize.
